When Spirit Speaks in Color

I've always been drawn to color—especially bright, joyful colors like yellow and orange. They have always lifted my spirit and brought a sense of warmth and happiness into my life.

My fascination with color grew even deeper when my mediumship mentor, Arlene Mills, began teaching a class on the symbolism of color in mediumship. Arlene has the remarkable ability to see a person's aura and the colors surrounding them during a reading. I was captivated and wondered, Could I learn to understand color in this way too?

From that moment on, I set an intention before every reading to become more aware of the colors Spirit showed me. What surprised me most was that the colors weren't always literal. Sometimes they represented a favorite color, but more often they carried a symbolic message that added another layer of understanding to the reading.

Over the past few years I've noticed fascinating patterns.

Green may appear around someone who loved nature, devoted their life to healing, or was always in service to others.

A gentleman may arrive wearing a bright red tie, symbolizing an entrepreneur, a leader, or someone with strong ambition and diplomacy.

I've seen a red sports car represent someone who wasn't afraid to take chances and pursued life with enthusiasm and courage.

Coral has appeared for individuals whose life force felt depleted or who carried a gentle, nurturing, and sensitive nature.

One woman appeared in a black dress with white polka dots, beautifully reflecting a personality that tended to see life in black-and-white terms.

Even clothing can carry meaning. Someone who spent their life working in the forestry industry may present themselves wearing a familiar red-and-black plaid shirt with suspenders—not necessarily because they wore those clothes every day in Spirit, but because Spirit knows that image will help tell their story.

These colorful symbols have become one of my favorite aspects of mediumship. They provide another piece of the puzzle and often validate something meaningful for the person receiving the reading.

I also work with color on a psychic level. The colors I perceive often correspond with the energy centers of the body, commonly known as the chakras. The strength—or absence—of certain colors can offer insight into what someone may be experiencing emotionally or spiritually.

For example, if yellow, the color associated with the solar plexus, appears diminished, it may suggest someone is struggling with confidence, self-worth, or personal empowerment. When yellow is bright and vibrant, it often reflects optimism, confidence, joy, and a renewed sense of purpose.

Color is a language all its own. Sometimes Spirit speaks through words, memories, or symbols—and sometimes Spirit speaks through color.

Every reading is unique, and while no color has only one meaning, I have found that paying attention to these impressions has enriched my mediumship in beautiful and unexpected ways.

It continues to remind me that Spirit communicates with us in ways that are both subtle and deeply meaningful. All we have to do is be willing to notice.

Notice what colors you are drawn to~ red may represent passion and action, orange creativity and joy, yellow optimism and intellect, green healing and growth, blue peace and communication, violet spirituality and intuition, black mystery and protection, and brown grounding and stability.

Have you ever been drawn to a particular color or noticed one appearing repeatedly in your life?
